Small business heroes: courage and persistence are key qualities
The finalists in The David Awards 2016 have been named.
For the past nine years, The David Awards have been recognising the unsung heroes in home and small businesses throughout New Zealand – the Kiwi Davids taking on the Goliaths of the New Zealand business landscape.
A standout attribute of the majority of the entrants is the courage and persistence they show, especially when facing challenges. Judges Glenn Smith, Glenn Baker, Pam Martin, Sandra Crosby, Brian Meredith and Richard O’Brien were impressed with this year’s entries.
Both the Solo Meo Award (which recognises single-person businesses) and the People’s Choice category, saw significant increases in entrant numbers. “It’s exciting to see the Solo Meo category, which we only included recently, proving a firm favourite as it really captures the essence of what The David Awards are about,” says founder Heather Douglas. “And the People’s Choice is also a category which resonates well with this audience which is generally very focussed on getting their business out there, with owners feeling responsible for their own success and used to promoting their businesses. In a way, this category really is networking at its best”.
Winners of The David Awards 2016 will be announced on www.thedavidawards.co.nz at 11 a.m. on 12 October.
