12 Awesome gifts of Doggy Days of Christmas

12 Awesome gifts of Doggy Days of Christmas

Our four-legged besties give us their hearts AND their unconditional loyalty.

Let’s face it, they adore us.  It doesn’t matter if we’re sporting daggy weekend trackies and bed hair.  They don’t care if we’ve got morning breath, in fact, they love it!  If we stop out all night they don’t give us the cold shoulder and refuse to call, nor do they complain when we binge-watch Netflix.  They never sulk if we forget their birthday.  And they couldn’t care less if we can’t parallel park.

Our dogs are eternally grateful for every moment we spend with them.

As far as relationships go, we’d be hard-pushed to find a better one!

Nothing beats seeing that rear-end wag itself silly when we get home.  So this Christmas, here at Newflands we’ve put together a list of 12 gifts you can give your fur baby to show just how much you love them.  And best of all, most of them are free!  We thought it’d be fun to put a new spin on a traditional festive song, check it out at the bottom, and feel free to sing along.

  1. A plain old stick can bring so much joy. Whether it’s a game of tug of war, or just a chance to lie down and shred the wood.  Grab a good book (for you) and a stick for your mate, and spend some time together in the sunshine.

  1. Food plays a huge part at Christmas, so keep some nice meaty brisket bones at the ready for your dog to chew on while you get stuck into the pav.

  1. Hoki treats are a perfect reward and great for training. Available in a 15g trial size, a 60g pack (an ideal stocking filler) or a 350g pack for even better value.

  1. Dogs adore charging around open fields. Their energy seems to know no bounds.  Unlike ours, especially during the holidays when sitting on the couch and eating chocolate feels like a much better idea. So why not take them for a romp?  Your dog will love you for it.

  1. The classic game of fetch. It’s an oldie but a goodie and an easy way to exercise your dog in a relatively short space of time.  For the ultimate fetch toy, our Bama floating stick reigns supreme. Available in two sizes and all the way from Italy, these are one of the most durable toys we’ve ever seen.

  1. You can’t beat genuine affection, and smothering your fur baby with kisses is a real sign of your love for them. Be warned though, you’ll likely get a good wash in return.

  1. New Zealand summers are hot, and with lots of restrictions in place we can’t always take our pup to the beach.  For the coolest of swims, our Dog Park has a fabulous pool specifically designed to keep your pooch happy in the heat.  It’s the perfect place to familiarise dogs with water and get them feeling confident,  or just let them splash around to their heart’s content.  Book a spot and bring a friend.

  1. Your fur baby is part of your family, so when you want to go out for dinner together, it’s only right they should get to come too, agreed? Well, now they can.  Bring Fido offers a list of pet-friendly eateries for the WHOLE tribe.
  2. Who doesn’t love a good hug?  Did you know we need 4 hugs a day just to survive and 12 to thrive?  So why not benefit you and your bestie and get your daily dose.  Start on those squeezy hugs now or treat them to a massage.
  1. Need a break? Or just fancy a few nights away but don’t want to put your precious family member into kennels?  Awesome, take them with you.  Check out the ultimate in dog-friendly accommodation.

  1. There isn’t a dog alive that doesn’t enjoy a good belly rub. For those that suffer from itchy skin, Ezapet is an all-natural topical balm that can be applied even to broken skin.  It provides welcome relief for allergy sufferers or those with skin conditions.  Working from the inside out, our renowned Hoki Oil ensures glossy coats, healthy joints and improved cardiac and cognitive function.  Give your dog the gift of good health this Christmas.

  1. We all need our mates, and our fur babies are no different.  Treat them to a great day out with other dogs to play with at our Dog Park. Either plan a party or hang out with our own dogs and make new friends. It’s the perfect place to socialise your pup and let them run to their heart’s content in a safe environment.

Whatever you do with your 4-legged pal this Christmas, as long as you’re together they’ll be happy.
